A Caprock alternative with a team kanban and flows
Caprock, from Cybrix LLC, calls itself an agentic development environment: a free, open-source (Apache-2.0) desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux that runs Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI and Hermes Agent in terminal tabs and follows each pull request from agent to release with its estimated cost. It is local-first, with no account and no telemetry; a paid Premium license and a self-hosted Team ledger add more. AgentVera also runs agent CLIs side by side in real terminals, and centers on handing work between agents and across a team. Below is how they differ and where Caprock is the better fit.
Caprock and AgentVera side by side
| Feature | Caprock | AgentVera |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | macOS 13 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux (x64 AppImage, .deb or .rpm); a phone pairs with the desktop over an encrypted relay. | macOS, Windows and Linux desktop app. |
| Supported agents | Starts Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI and Hermes Agent in terminal tabs and split panes; also records sessions you start in your own terminal, and reads DeepSeek Harness sessions. | 18 CLI coding agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Copilot, Cursor Agent, opencode, Amp and Aider, plus plain terminals. Each uses its own CLI install and login. |
| Open source / license | Open source, Apache-2.0. | Closed source. |
| Pricing model | Community free; Premium $30 a year or $100 once; Team from $500 a month, billed yearly; Enterprise custom. | Free plan with unlimited agents; Pro and Team plans are paid. |
| Git worktrees | Yes. Agents run per project or worktree, and each task in the opt-in task runner gets its own worktree on a caprock/ branch; merging stays manual. | Yes. Create a worktree per task from the Git panel and start an agent in it; night-shift tasks get their own worktree. You are warned when two agents edit the same file. |
| Kanban | A Work board lists every branch at its furthest stage (agent, pull request, CI, merged, released); a Pipeline screen follows pull requests to a release with agent spend per stage. | Team kanban shared across your organization; hand a card to Claude, Codex or another agent and the reply lands on the card (Pro and Team). |
| Flows and pipelines between agents | Opt-in task runner: an orchestrator session hands queued tasks to Claude Code worker sessions, each in its own worktree. | Flows pass one agent’s output to the next; a team view of open agents led by a manager; a parallel team that ends in one PR; staged task line; night shift (Pro and Team). |
| Acceptance checks | Tasks carry done criteria (tests, type checks, lint) that Caprock runs itself; failures go back to the worker, and after three rounds it asks you. | Verify extracts acceptance criteria from your request and a separate read-only verifier checks each one after the agent’s turn; automatic code review. |
| Database manager / SSH | not confirmed | Database manager for PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB and SQLite (Pro and Team); SSH/SFTP panel; agent SSH and database access with your rules. |
| Token savings | Estimated cost per turn, repository, pull request, release and model; Claude and Codex 5-hour and weekly limits with reset times; loop alerts. Premium can pause at a daily budget or at the plan limit. | Context profiles, automatic /compact, bundled RTK output compression, automatic per-task model routing and a project map (code graph) for agents. |
| Team features | Team plan: a ledger on your own servers with every machine’s sessions, cost per pull request, repository and release, team-wide loop alerts and a weekly report; prompts and code stay on each laptop. | Organizations, team kanban, client boards, AgentVera Runner on your own server, automatic account switching. |
A dash means we could not confirm the feature on Caprock’s own pages. It may exist or arrive later; check their site.
When to pick Caprock
- You want a free, open-source (Apache-2.0) app with no account and no telemetry.
- You want to see what agent work costs per pull request, release and model, and how fast you use your Claude and Codex plan limits.
- You want a task runner that marks a task done only when your tests, type checks or lint pass.
- You want to answer agent prompts from your phone, or a self-hosted ledger of agent cost for the whole team.
When to pick AgentVera
- You want more agents (18 CLIs, from Copilot and Cursor Agent to Amp and Aider) next to plain terminals.
- You want ready-made handoffs between agents: flows, a team view led by a manager, a parallel team that ends in one PR, night shift.
- You want accounts to switch automatically when one hits its limit, plus context profiles and automatic /compact to save tokens.
- You want a team kanban whose cards you hand to Claude, Codex or another agent, plus a database manager and an SSH/SFTP panel in the same app.
Moving from Caprock to AgentVera
- Download AgentVera and open the repository you use in Caprock as a project.
- Add the agents you ran from Caprock; AgentVera starts the installed claude, codex, gemini or opencode CLI with its own login.
- Worktrees on caprock/ branches are ordinary git worktrees: open them from the Git panel, or merge and remove them first.
- Recreate task-runner work as flows or a parallel team, and let Verify check the acceptance criteria after each turn.
Questions
Is Caprock free?
The Community edition is free and Apache-2.0. Premium costs $30 a year or $100 once and adds features such as a daily budget pause and replies from Telegram; the Team ledger starts at $500 a month, billed yearly. AgentVera has a free plan with unlimited agents; Pro and Team are paid.
Does Caprock run agents or only track them?
Both. Caprock starts Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI and Hermes Agent in its own terminal tabs and also records sessions you start elsewhere. Its focus is cost, limits and the path from pull request to release.
Does Caprock switch accounts at a limit?
Caprock shows Claude and Codex plan limits and, with Premium, can pause at the limit; we did not find automatic account switching on its pages. AgentVera moves an agent to the next account in a chain when one hits its limit.
Is AgentVera open source like Caprock?
No. AgentVera is a closed-source desktop app with a free plan. Caprock is open source under Apache-2.0.
Can I use Caprock and AgentVera on the same repository?
Yes. Both work on plain git branches and worktrees, so you can try AgentVera without changing your Caprock setup.
