A Warp alternative for running many coding agents
Warp is an agentic development platform built around a terminal for macOS, Windows and Linux. It has its own Warp Agent and cloud agents, and it runs third-party CLI agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI in its panes. Its client is open source under AGPL-3.0. AgentVera also runs agent CLIs in real terminals and builds flows, checks and team tools around them. Below is how they differ and where Warp is the better fit.
Warp and AgentVera side by side
| Feature | Warp | AgentVera |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | macOS, Windows and Linux. | macOS, Windows and Linux desktop app. |
| Supported agents | Its own Warp Agent (in the app, as a CLI and in the cloud), plus third-party CLI agents in terminal panes: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Amp, Copilot CLI, Cursor CLI, Gemini CLI, Droid, Goose, Kiro CLI and more. | 18 CLI coding agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Copilot, Cursor Agent, opencode, Amp and Aider, plus plain terminals. Each uses its own CLI install and login. |
| Open source / license | Client open source: AGPL-3.0, with the UI framework crates under MIT (about 66k GitHub stars). | Closed source. |
| Pricing model | Free plan; Build $20/month, Max $200/month, Business $50 per user/month, Enterprise custom (billed monthly). | Free plan with unlimited agents; Pro and Team plans are paid. |
| Git worktrees | Yes. Tab Configs can create a git worktree per tab, with a generated branch name. | Yes. Create a worktree per task from the Git panel and start an agent in it; night-shift tasks get their own worktree. You are warned when two agents edit the same file. |
| Kanban | not confirmed | Team kanban shared across your organization; hand a card to Claude, Codex or another agent and the reply lands on the card (Pro and Team). |
| Flows and pipelines between agents | Orchestration: a parent Warp Agent can start and coordinate child agents; cloud agents run in the background from triggers, schedules or integrations. | Flows pass one agent’s output to the next; a team view of open agents led by a manager; a parallel team that ends in one PR; staged task line; night shift (Pro and Team). |
| Acceptance checks | not confirmed | Verify extracts acceptance criteria from your request and a separate read-only verifier checks each one after the agent’s turn; automatic code review. |
| Database manager / SSH | The SSH extension brings Warp’s features, including agent edits and code review, to remote macOS and Linux hosts. | Database manager for PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB and SQLite (Pro and Team); SSH/SFTP panel; agent SSH and database access with your rules. |
| Token savings | not confirmed | Context profiles, automatic /compact, bundled RTK output compression, automatic per-task model routing and a project map (code graph) for agents. |
| Team features | Business plan (up to 25 seats): team usage metrics, admin data controls and SAML SSO; Enterprise has unlimited seats. | Organizations, team kanban, client boards, AgentVera Runner on your own server, automatic account switching. |
A dash means we could not confirm the feature on Warp’s own pages. It may exist or arrive later; check their site.
When to pick Warp
- You want a modern terminal for everyday use, with an agent (Warp Agent) and AI features built into the terminal itself.
- You want cloud agents that run in the background from triggers, schedules or integrations, without a session left open.
- You want to read the client’s source; it is open source under AGPL-3.0.
When to pick AgentVera
- You want agents to hand work to each other: flows, a team view led by a manager, a parallel team that ends in one PR, night shift.
- You want acceptance checks (Verify) after each turn and a warning when two agents edit the same file.
- You want a team kanban whose cards you hand to Claude, Codex or another agent, plus a database manager and an SSH/SFTP panel in the same app.
- You want token savings built in: context profiles, automatic /compact, RTK output compression and per-task model routing.
Moving from Warp to AgentVera
- Download AgentVera and open the repository you work on in Warp as a project.
- Add the agent CLIs you ran in Warp tabs; AgentVera starts the installed claude, codex, gemini or opencode CLI with its own login.
- Worktrees created by Warp’s Tab Configs are ordinary git worktrees: open them from the Git panel, or create a new worktree per task there.
- Keep Warp as your everyday terminal if you like, and run your agents in AgentVera.
Questions
Can Warp run Claude Code and Codex?
Yes. Warp runs third-party CLI agents such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Gemini CLI in terminal panes and adds a rich input editor, code review comments and status in vertical tabs. AgentVera also runs these CLIs in real terminals, with flows, acceptance checks and a team kanban around them.
Is Warp open source?
Warp’s client is open source: AGPL-3.0, with its UI framework crates under MIT. AgentVera is closed source.
How do the prices compare?
Warp has a free plan and paid plans from $20 a month (Build) that include agent usage. AgentVera has a free plan with unlimited agents; Pro and Team are paid. In AgentVera, agents use your own CLI logins and subscriptions.
Do I need an API key for AgentVera?
No. AgentVera runs the CLI you installed with its own login, so your existing Claude or OpenAI sign-in is used as is.
Can I use Warp and AgentVera together?
Yes. Both work on the same git repository, branches and worktrees, so you can keep Warp as your terminal and run agents in AgentVera.
