File ownership: separate areas for parallel agents

When you split work between parallel agents, you can split the codebase too. Give an agent the files and folders it owns; as long as it runs, other agents don’t edit them and ask the owner when they need a change there.

The areas an agent owns

In the agent dialog, the “Sahip olduğu alanlar” (owned areas) field takes one path or glob pattern per line, relative to the repository root.

  • src/api/** covers the whole API folder.
  • *.sql covers every SQL file.
  • Changing ownership doesn’t need a restart.

Stopped before the edit

While the owner runs, another agent that tries to edit one of those files is stopped before the change is made.

  • Claude Code agents have the edit refused up front by a PreToolUse hook, with a message naming the owner and telling them to ask that agent.
  • Codex and other CLIs get the ownership rules in their instructions.
  • Every refused attempt shows up on the team timeline.

Ask the owner

With agent messaging, the refused agent can write to the owner directly and ask for the change. Each area has one agent responsible for it, and the work keeps moving.

How to use it

  1. 1

Find the “Sahip olduğu alanlar” field in the agent dialog.

  2. 2

Write one path or glob pattern per line, relative to the repo root, such as src/api/** or *.sql.

  3. 3

Run the agent; while it works, other agents can’t edit those files.

  4. 4

Follow refused attempts in the Zaman çizelgesi (timeline) tab of the right panel.

Questions

When does ownership apply?

While the owning agent runs. During that time other agents can’t edit its files.

Are Codex agents blocked too?

Codex and other CLIs get the ownership rules in their instructions. The check that stops an edit before it happens works for Claude Code agents.

Do I need to restart the agent after changing ownership?

No. Changes apply without a restart.

How do I write the paths?

One path or glob pattern per line, relative to the repository root, such as src/api/** or *.sql.
