Emdash, from General Action (YC W26), is a free, open-source (Apache-2.0) desktop app for running coding agents in parallel. By default each task gets its own git worktree and branch, and its docs list 35 agent CLIs that it detects once installed, from Claude Code and Codex to Devin, Droid and Qwen Code. Issues from Linear, GitHub, Jira and other trackers can start a task; you review diffs, open pull requests, watch CI checks and merge in the app, preview web apps in a built-in browser, schedule agent work, and run the same workflow on your own machines over SSH. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. AgentVera runs agent CLIs in real terminals side by side, and adds flows, acceptance checks and team tools. Below is how they differ and where Emdash is the better fit.

| Feature | Emdash | AgentVera |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Platforms | macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel, also through Homebrew), Windows (x64 installer, MSI package and portable build) and Linux (x64 and ARM64 AppImage, .deb and .rpm). | macOS, Windows and Linux desktop app. |
| Supported agents | 35 agent CLIs in its docs, detected once installed, among them Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode, Amp, Devin, Droid, Goose, Hermes Agent, Junie, Kiro and Qwen Code; each runs in a chat view or its own terminal UI. | 18 CLI coding agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Copilot, Cursor Agent, opencode, Amp and Aider, plus plain terminals. Each uses its own CLI install and login. |
| Open source / license | Open source, Apache-2.0. | Closed source. |
| Pricing model | Free; we found no paid plan. Emdash 2.0, a cloud-first workspace for teams, has a waitlist. | Free plan with unlimited agents; Pro and Team plans are paid. |
| Git worktrees | Yes. By default each task creates its own git worktree and branch; you can instead pick an existing workspace or the repository root, and scheduled automations can start in a new worktree. | Yes. Create a worktree per task from the Git panel and start an agent in it; night-shift tasks get their own worktree. You are warned when two agents edit the same file. |
| Kanban | Not confirmed on their own pages | Team kanban shared across your organization; hand a card to Claude, Codex or another agent and the reply lands on the card (Pro and Team). |
| Flows and pipelines between agents | Automations run an agent prompt on a cron schedule; tasks can start from Linear, GitHub, Jira, GitLab, Asana and other trackers. We did not find pipelines that pass one agent’s output to another. | Flows pass one agent’s output to the next; a team view of open agents led by a manager; a parallel team that ends in one PR; staged task line; night shift (Pro and Team). |
| Acceptance checks | A CI/CD Checks view shows the GitHub Actions runs of a task’s pull request next to the diff; we did not find checks of acceptance criteria. | Verify extracts acceptance criteria from your request and a separate read-only verifier checks each one after the agent’s turn; automatic code review. |
| Database manager / SSH | Remote projects over SSH/SFTP (agent, key or password auth): a Workspace Server on your machine runs files, Git, terminals, agents and automations. We did not find a database manager. | Database manager for PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB and SQLite (Pro and Team); SSH/SFTP panel; agent SSH and database access with your rules. |
| Token savings | Not confirmed on their own pages | Context profiles, automatic /compact, bundled RTK output compression, automatic per-task model routing and a project map (code graph) for agents. |
| Team features | Not confirmed on their own pages | Organizations, team kanban, client boards, AgentVera Runner on your own server, automatic account switching. |

**When to pick Emdash:**

- You want a free, open-source (Apache-2.0) app with no paid plan.
- You want the longest agent list: its docs name 35 CLIs, from Devin and Droid to Junie and Kiro, against AgentVera’s 18.
- You want issues from Linear, Jira, GitHub, GitLab, Asana and other trackers to become agent tasks, with CI checks, pull requests and merging next to the diff.
- You run work on your own machines over SSH and want scheduled automations to keep running there when your laptop disconnects, or you need Linux ARM64 builds.

**When to pick AgentVera:**

- You want each agent in a real terminal, with 18 CLIs side by side in a grid next to plain terminals.
- You want flows that pass one agent’s output to the next, a team view led by a manager, a parallel team that ends in one PR, and night shift.
- You want acceptance checks (Verify) after each turn, automatic code review and a warning when two agents edit the same file.
- You want a team kanban, automatic account switching at a limit, a database manager and an SSH/SFTP panel in the same app.

**Moving from Emdash to AgentVera:**

1. Download AgentVera and open the projects you use in Emdash.
2. Add Claude Code, Codex, Copilot or opencode. AgentVera starts the CLIs you already installed, so your logins and subscriptions carry over.
3. Emdash worktrees are ordinary git worktrees (by default under ~/emdash/worktrees): open them from the Git panel, or merge and remove them first.
4. Rebuild scheduled automations as night-shift tasks (Pro and Team); to run agents on a server, install AgentVera Runner there.

- **Is Emdash free?** Yes. Emdash is free and open source under Apache-2.0, and you bring your own agent accounts; we found no paid plan on its site. AgentVera has a free plan with unlimited agents; Pro and Team are paid.
- **Does Emdash run on Windows?** Yes. Emdash publishes a Windows x64 installer, an MSI package and a portable build. AgentVera also runs natively on Windows, with an x64 installer.
- **Which agents does Emdash support?** Its docs list 35 agent CLIs, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, OpenCode, Amp and Qwen Code, and it detects them once installed. AgentVera runs 18 CLI agents next to plain terminals.
- **Is AgentVera open source like Emdash?** No. AgentVera is a closed-source desktop app with a free plan. Emdash is open source under Apache-2.0.
- **Can I use Emdash and AgentVera on the same repository?** Yes. Both work on plain git branches and worktrees, so you can try AgentVera without changing your Emdash setup.
